THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
You may have heard referred to as Swedish Massage. This incorporates massage techniques to relax and sooth general aches and pains. Therapeutic massage is always available in the treatments outlined below. These fall under the general category of Remedial Therapies, with the list of these amssage techniques available below.
REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial massage seeks to remedy the cause creating muscle or tissue pain and dysfunction. Specific soft tissue techniques are used to promote health muscle function. These include structural and postural corrections.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Focus is on treatment of sports related injuries, pre-event and post-event massage. In addition, prevention and rehabilitation advice will be offered.
TRIGGER POINT
A trigger point is a hyper-irritable focus point located within the muscle. Once it is found by the therapist and pressed upon, it can “trigger” a pain referral pattern. Reproducing the pain, deactivating the “trigger” helps to alleviate chronic muscular pain and stiffness.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Fascia is specialized connective tissue. One could call it the body’s internal wrapping system, as it surrounds every structure within the body. Restriction in the fascia can affect not only the posture, but also the mobility of the entire body. Release of the fascia helps to restore mobility, encouraging balanced, structural integration.
DEEP TISSUE THERAPY
IT IS NOT JUST PRESSING HARDER! Deep tissue utilizes specific techniques to work deeply into the tissue especially around ligaments, muscle belly and attachment of tendons to the bone.
CORRECTIVE EXERCISE
An integral part of the treatments listed above is EXERCISE. Exercise to stretch shortened muscles, strengthen weakened muscles and improve range of movement of each joint.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Gentle techniques to move the lymph fluid, stimulate the immune system as well as promote energy.
The value and benefits of Lymphatic Drainage are not as well known and often overlooked in favour of remedial or firmer techniques which focus on muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, joints or connective tissue. These techniques of course would be appropriate when problems occur in any of these structures.
When pain or restriction is created from a build up of fluid then the gentler techniques of Lymphatic Drainage are designed to promote the free flow of lymph throughout the body.
Optimal fluid circulation can impaired through injuries, viruses, flu and post surgery.Fibromyalgia is one chronic condition which responds well to the gentle ,light and non-invasive techniques of Lymphatic Drainage. A sluggish ,dysfunctional lymph system is also indicated when a client is pain sensitive to touch.
Some clients combine a series of lymph treatments with detoxing programs or diets.
Reported benefits which arise from the mechanical stimulation of the flow of lymph include:
- reducing or preventing lymphoedema
- allieviating fluid congestion(eg.swollen ankles,puffy eyes).
- stimulating the immune system to reduce the frequency of recurring infections(eg.colds ,flu, ear or chest infections)
- promoting healing(eg.wounds,acute injuries,burns)
- inducing relaxation and restful sleep.
- reducing pain(eg.arthritic conditions)
- relaxing hypertonic muscles
- stimulates bowel and bladder movements.
- removing metabolic wastes, excess water, toxins, bacteria, large protein molecules and foreign substances from the tissues.
- promoting general health and well being.
- improving many chronic conditions (sinusitis, skin conditions ,chronic fatigue).
