Ki Yoga
“Yoga” literally means the union of human spirit and body. “Ki” is the Japanese equivalent to “Qi” and is translated as Energy. Ki Yoga is derived from the teachings of Japanese Yoga Master Masahiro Oki who combined Indian Hatha Yoga with the precise diagnostic & meridian based healing art of China and Japan. It is also called the Yoga of meaning. Master Oki believed in four essential things: strength in your Hara (belly), laughter & smiles, a positive mind and gratitude. The asanas (poses) strengthen, balance & invigorate you & your body, giving a sense of wellness and leaving you feeling alive. There is also a great emphasis on breath, using your breath to your advantage. The poses are aligned to the seasons, the time of day & your changing needs to bring continuous harmony & support within……….”for nothing in nature is static,” according to yin—yang principles. This approach means that there is always something different happening in class, new things to try, new insights to find and more fun to be had.
Meditation, Relaxation & Yoga Nidra might be integrated into the class.
In Ki Yoga you work according to your level of ability and it is not competitive. It is the doing that makes the difference and the feeling into the body and becoming aware of what’s going on for you. It develops balance and strength on all levels: physical, emotional, structural, intellectual & spiritual. This gives you more flexibility and the ability to focus on what’s needed in your life.
Classes are run regularly, so you can come to as many as you like; they are aligned to the people attending the class, so beginners are as welcome as more advanced students.
Private as well as group or corporate classes are also available.
Yoga Nidra (Yoga Sleep) is an expression widely used to denote the highest state of consciousness. Although yoga nidra means yogic sleep, it is actually a wakeful state of deep introversion. Some contemporary Yoga authorities employ the phrase yoga nidra to designate a state of deep relaxation. In the initial stages, the process involves bringing awareness to every part of the body, step by step, and harmonizing the mind. This inner awareness is a movement of consciousness rather than a deliberate autosuggestion. You cannot relax by trying to relax. You need to feel relaxed. Yogis also believe that you cannot relax your body unless your mind is relaxed. So Yoga nidra relaxation is a complete package that involves relaxing the mind, body & spirit.

“Meditations for a busy mind” Meditation CD
Meditation helps to reduce stress, decrease anxiety, improve memory function, increases self awareness and increase ability to access inner wisdom, just to name some of the benefits of meditation.
Many of us are busy people mostly doing and rarely being able to relax and just be. The flipside of this can be stress and sometimes anxiety. The simple meditation exercises illustrated here will help you experience and explore the benefits of meditation.
The two techniques on this cd are easy to follow and good for times when we find it hard to guide ourselves through a meditation. They are little helpers along the way of discovery for the beginning meditator and revision for the well established meditator. They will bring you back to the basics of being with awareness on breath, body and mind, becoming and being an observer; helping you to be in the moment, accepting what is, become more relaxed, being more aware and awake.

5 minute mindfulness meditation practice
sit on the floor/chair -make sure your back is straight and your arms are relaxed- or lay on the floor – bring your attention to your breath for one minute (don’t worry if it is a bit longer) – feel your belly rise and fall – then widen your attention to include all your bodily sensations and any thought and feelings – try to be a neutral observer of your thoughts – not hanging on to them not thinking them not pushing them away – just be in the moment and observe – if you drift of in thought- as soon as you catch yourself come back to observing
