About Essence of Yoga
Lifestyle stressors caused by workload, inter relationships with family and friends, and sometimes seemingly insoluble problems all contribute to the stress so many of us experience in our daily lives resulting in mental, physical and muscular tension.
Yoga is the ideal antidote. With regular practice you will become calm and relaxed enabling you to deal with life’s challenges with the added benefit of a strong and healthy body.
Regardless of age and physical ability the classes are designed to allow the student to work within their capabilities and encouraged self discovery.
Essence of Yoga extends an invitaition for you to come to the
‘Breathing Space’ and breath some space into the busyness of your life!
The Teachers
Sandra is the owner of Essence of Yoga and Principle Teacher of the Teacher Training Course at Yoga Spirit Studios in Torrensville. Sandra draws upon her experience and study from several gifted teachers and is a senior associate of international yoga presenter Donna Farhi, assisting Donna whenever possible on workshop intensives within Australia. Sandra was also an assistant during Donna Farhi’s 21-day Teacher Training Intensive Program held in New Zealand in 2008.
Sandra from this foundation of experience, presents a fresh and holistic approach to the ancient practice of Hatha Yoga.
Offering a safe and supportive environment students are guided to rediscover their own bodies’ natural intelligence, explore movement patterns that provide support for the body and are given variations to accommodate their limitations and level of experience.
All classes are held at the ‘Breathing Space’ with Yoga / Pilates Body Awareness Workshops offered throughout the year. Weekend Residential Retreats in the Adelaide Hills are also offered annually. Sandra holds membership with the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia and the Yoga Teachers Institute of South Australia.
Sandra is supported by Sharon, Sylvia, Leanne, Janet and Frank who each bring their own experience and teachings to Essence of Yoga.
Course and Class Information & Timetable
Class content begins with gentle body warm-up, techniques to strengthen the body and increase flexibility and may also include flowing vinyasa (posture) sequences to build stamina, as well as breathing practices and deep relaxation to encourage health, happiness and peace.
Foundation Course This course is designed to gradually introduce students sequentially to yoga techniques which help increase flexibility, strengthen the body and encourage peace and harmony. Booking and prepayment are essential, courses run subject to numbers.

Ongoing Beginner Classes Students attending this level continue to build their knowledge of the physical practice. Meditation and Pranayama (breathing practices) are introduced. It is recommended that students attend this level for at least six months.
General Classes Students with at least six months experience are welcome to attend this class regardless of their flexibility and capabilities. Flowing sequences (vinyasa) are layered building strength and stamina and creating a moving meditative practice. Students are allowed a degree of independence to choose the variation that best suits their needs. Chanting as well as Meditation and or Pranayama will be included.
Relax, Stretch and Balance Classes focus on postures to maintain strength and flexibility but with a stronger focus on postures to help restore energy and balance hormones.
*In all levels students may be given guided movement explorations helping them to understand their unique movement patterns finding the clearest line of alignment and increasing body awareness. Restore and Relax classes on occasion may substitute the regular format.
Pilates Pilates Mat Classes will build strength between abdominal and back muscles to provide core stabilization to improve and enhance posture allowing the entire body to move freely with ease. Pilates can be practiced by people of all ages, whether recovering from illness or injury or at peak fitness.
Prenatal Classes Pregnancy is a time of remarkable transformation where all manner of changes both physically and emotionally take place.
Regular attendance to class provides support during the transitional changes of pregnancy. The postures, breathing and meditation practices given can also assist in an empowered active labour.
Childbirth Education Workshops Workshops are presented at the Studio to support you and your partner to facilitate your desired birth. Topics covered in workshops include;

* Partner support
* Bottle/ Breast feeding
* Bonding with baby

Mum and Bub course (5 weeks) once you have been given approval to recommence exercise. This course has a strong focus on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles as well as releasing stress and tension in the neck and shoulders. The class time provides you with quality bonding time with your baby.
Meditation Meditation to help still the mind will be given during 4 week courses. The aim of this course is to present students with simple meditation techniques as tools to take away and practice at home. Hand out notes are provided at each class. Relax and Rejuvenate Class Relax and Rejuvenate Classes are held approximately every two months. During this class supportive postures (asanas) will be given to help release deeply held tension from muscles, breathing practices (pranayama) to held quieten the mind and guided relaxation (yoga nidra) to relieve emotional, mental and physical stress leaving you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
