How does SCENAR Therapy work?
RITM SCENAR works by stimulating the brain with a constantly varying signal that causes it to instruct the nervous system to generate Neuropeptides, the key biochemicals needed by your body to heal itself. Neuropeptides may be considered as our body’s own internal pharmacy.
In many cases of bodily imbalance or injury, the brain tends to become “used” to a disease or injury rather than aggressively generating the correct neuropeptides and electrical signals needed to effect a complete recovery.
The communication system between the brain and the affected body part can break down and this gradually becomes accepted by the brain as being “Normal”. Because of its unique, computer controlled biofeedback capabilities and ability to stimulate the neuropeptide generating C – Fibers of the nervous system, the SCENAR constantly achieves results that amaze people all over the world.
While conventional therapeutic devices are passive, the SCENAR device involves active reflex biofeedback, which means that the device communicates actively with the processes that are happening in the body.
The SCENAR device does this by monitoring the skin’s impedance and then changes the electric impulse it is sending out in accordance with the changes in the skin’s impedance. Therefore active reflex biofeedback and the ability to stimulate the neuropeptide generating C-fibres of the nervous system means that maximal therapeutic effectiveness can be achieved.
The optimum therapeutic results are always dependent upon the client’s body’s response and therefore individual to each client. As the SCENAR device monitors and evaluates treatment results it independently delivers the correct impulse without the possibility of overdosing and hence few side effects.
What to expect from a SCENAR treatment
You will experience a light tingling sensation in/or near the area where the therapist applies the SCENAR device onto your skin. It should not be painful. The SCENAR is used to identify key points for optimal treatment.
The treatment can last for approximately 45 minutes for most people, depending on whether the complaint is acute or chronic.
Typically your pain will reduce immediately after the treatment although there may be some residual pain. As pain relief is achieved through the release of the body’s own endorphins and other neuropeptides, the full effect from your treatment can be expected within the following couple of days.
Benefits of Massage
Massage is the systematic and scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for therapeutic purposes. As both a healing art and a science it can benefit every body. It has a broad range of applications and can assist in the treatment of common ailments such as tension headache, stress, arthritis, lower back pain, sciatica and insomnia.
Massage Therapy has the following benefits:
Muscle health. Massage helps to maintain muscles in the best possible state of nutrition, flexibility and vitality, speeding up muscle recovery after activity or injury. It relieves muscle restrictions, tightness, stiffness and spasm which may limit full movement. It encourages better muscle activity through increased movement of nutrients and removal of waste products. Massage can also delay muscle wasting due to disuse (for example, after a stroke or during lengthy bed rest).
Skin health. Massage improves oxygenation and nutrition of the skin, increases skin elasticity and loosens scar tissue to promote health and movement. It also improves sebaceous secretion to lubricate the skin and improve its texture and condition.
Cardiovascular health. Massage increases local blood flow without putting additional strain on the heart. It stimulates the nerves that control blood vessels. (Widening the blood vessels can increase blood circulation and lower blood pressure in some cases). It mechanically propels blood towards the heart in bed-rest patients. Massage also decreases the heart rate through decreased stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system (this is called the relaxation response).
Respiratory health. Massage may slow down the rate of respiration via reduced stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. It may also increase lung capacity and pulmonary function where they have been compromised by tight primary and secondary muscles of respiration.
Lymphatic health. Massage reduces some forms of swelling (lymphoedema) by mechanically stimulating circulation. This can also be useful when a person is immobile due to pain or where injury interferes with lymphatic drainage. It decreases swelling after injury, promoting repair and faster return to activity. Massage has also been shown to increase the presence of natural killer cells and their activity, suggesting that it may strengthen the immune system.
Digestive health. Massage increases the movement of the large intestine, helping to relieve colic and intestinal gas. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, stimulating digestion. It can also decrease constipation by direct movement of faecal material around the bowel. This will aid in elimination without drugs.
General health and wellbeing. Massage sedates and relaxes the body by normalising nerve activity. It can decrease insomnia and improve sleeping patterns through stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system.
Pain relief and stress management. Massage decreases pain with the release of pain-reducing neurochemicals. It can provide stimuli to modulate pain perception and decrease pain directly. Massage decreases stress levels by activating the relaxation response. Recipients of massage show an increase in dopamine and serotonin levels, suggesting a decrease in stress levels and depression.
