Menopause Made Easy With Essential Oils
For women, the experience of menopause can be as individualistic, unique and varied as our fingerprints. Some women sail through it without any major bumps, while others grapple with annoying and unpredictable symptoms for as long as a decade. Any woman who has battled hot flashes, loss of libido, weight gain and mood swings will know what I am talking about.
Menopause is a significant phase in any woman’s life, and not only because it signals the end of the reproductive period, but also because it comes at a time when most of us have a demanding life to lead and responsibilities to deal with. Therefore, staying fit and active should be a top priority.
There are several supplements and dietary recommendations that are known to ease the symptoms, but a little known secret is the use of essential oils for menopause.
Which essential oils to use for menopause?
Some oils like Geranium and Clary Sage support the female reproductive system by balancing hormones and regulating menstrual cycles.
During menopause, the level of estrogens in the body comes down, leading to physiological and psychological changes. Fennel contains natural plant estrogens that can fill in the void so that these changes feel less dramatic.
Depression is another side effect of menopause. The fresh citrusy scent of Grapefruit lifts away the depression and dullness, while Cypress helps build inner strength during this period of transition.
I have used all these oils in my Women’s Help Body Oil, which I formulated for my female clients who complained of hot flushes, night sweats, restlessness, anxiety, vaginal dryness, loss of libido, dizziness, lower backache and insomnia. Applying this blend all over the body twice a day, with emphasis on groins, lower back and abdomen has definitely helped with their symptoms.
I recently reformulated the blend to add Vitex Agnus Cactus because of its proven ability to maintain the delicate estrogen-progesterone equilibrium in the body.
Aromatherapy blends for menopause
There are many other blends that can target specific symptoms of menopause. Here are some suggestions:
For loss of libido and confidence:
It is common for menopausal women to experience loss of libido and a general lowering of body confidence. This is where Rose Absolute and Jasmine help. Rose Absolute is a nurturing oil that restores feminine balance and self-confidence, while Jasmine is a natural aphrodisiac which boosts your desires.
For depression, anxiety and mood swings:
Place 1 drop of Rose Absolute and 1 drop of Radiare essential oil blend on a tissue, close your eyes and take three deep breathes.
This technique is always more effective when you are mindful of the properties of the oils. Feel your heart healing, and imagine all your worries fade away.
I also recommend Bergamot for its cooling, refreshing and uplifting qualities because that’s just what you need when your hormones are wrecking havoc within.
For Water Retention and Bloating:
Massage the abdominal area with Detoxing Body Oil which contains Fennel, Orange, Rosemary and Cedarwood which are known to cleanse the body and improve lymphatic flow.
For Edema and Poor Circulation :
Massage your legs with Circulation Body Oil using upward strokes in the direction of the heart. This will reduce the swelling and make your feel more energetic.
Menopause doesn’t have to be a horror story. Make yours pleasant and comfortable with aromatherapy. These oils, along with a healthy lifestyle, will take care of most menopausal problems so that you can enjoy this new facet of womanhood.
